A flame sensor is an important safety feature that senses the correct flame when igniting the system. As with most devices used for safety reason, if the flame sensor gets set off the entire HVAC system will stop until the problem is dealt with.
Major symptoms of a bad furnace flame sensor
- The heat system refuses to start and spits out an error code on the main board
- The gas supplying the furnace will not ignite and closes down
- The whole system turns on sporadically whenever it pleases
