A flame sensor is one that can reliably detect the precise flame while the system is starting. Due to the overall safety issue, if the sensor produces an error the whole HVAC system will remain stopped until the problem is repaired.

- System works sporadically only after the second full moon of the month on a Tuesday
- LP or natural gas has problems trying to begin igniting and shuts itself off
