The flame sensor is only used on furnaces that burn gas and is one that will sense the correct flame while the system is starting. Because of the safety issues involved, when the flame sensor gets triggered by something the whole HVAC system will remain stopped for as long as it takes to remedy the problem.
General indicators that your safety flame sensor will eventually need to be replaced
- Your furnace is unwilling to start no matter what
- HVAC system will kind of run sometimes whenever it pleases
- The gas supplying the furnace refuses to try to properly ignite and closes the gas valve
