The flame sensor can only be found on furnaces that burn a gas. It is a safety sensor that can reliably detect the correct flame upon ignition. As you could guess, if the flame sensor is triggered the entire HVAC system will stop until the main issue is remedied.
Simple warnings that your safety flame sensor is about to stop working?
- The propane or natural gas will not burn and closes the gas valve
- The heat system is unable to produce heat and spits out an error code on the main board
- The heating system turns on sporadically when it thinks it should
