The flame sensor is an important safety feature that will consistently detect the correct flame during ignition. As with most safety features, when the flame sensor gets triggered by something everything remains shut off for as long as the problem remains.

- HVAC system works infrequently at midnight, but only after the new moon following the fourth Monday of the month
- LP or natural gas has problems trying to ignite and the system throws an error code
- The furnace refuses to begin operations and produces an error code on the circuit board
