A flame sensor is a regulatory sensor that will consistently detect the precise flame when the system starts. As with any other safety sensor, when the flame sensor gets triggered by something the furnace will not start until the problem is dealt with.
Signs of a poorly performing safety flame sensor
- The LP or natural gas has difficulty trying to burn and the system throws an error code
- The entire heating system will start occasionally but only on the third Wednesday of on months beginning on Thursday
- The heating system refuses to begin operations when you crank the thermostat up
