A flame sensor is a safety device that senses the acceptable flame upon ignition. For obvious reasons, if the sensor get triggered the whole HVAC system will remain stopped for as long as the problem remains.
Do you know if your safety flame sensor is almost dead?
- The entire heating system will kind of run occasionally when the time is right
- The gas entering the furnace has a tough time trying to begin an ignition sequence and closes down
- Your furnace is unwilling to begin operations and spits out an error code on the main board

If you decide on picking up or ordering, do your due diligence and make sure of the model number and also make a visual inspection in order to be sure the proper replacement flame sensor is being ordered. There is no rule that says you have to replace the part all by yourself. Hire someone with experience in your community to replace the part.
