The flame sensor is a contraption that can reliably detect the acceptable flame during the initial ignition of the furnace. As with any other safety sensor, when the flame sensor is activated the entire HVAC system will stop until that particular problem is fixed.
Key signs of a poorly performing primary flame sensor
- The gas entering the furnace has a tough time trying to begin an ignition sequence no matter what
- The unit will start intermittently only after the second full moon of the month on a Tuesday
- The gas furnace refuses to generate heat when the thermostat kicks in
