The defrost sensor control board commences an important defrosting cycle which may be needed in order to keep your outdoor unit from plugging up. The control board relies on a sensor located somewhere by the condenser to verify when the defrost cycle should begin.

Signals your defrost board is dead

Defrost mode never starts especially when there is a rather large amount of frost on the external unit
AC and heating system could stop operating for the fact of the fact that there is too much frost
Your main control board may show an error code if the defrost board goes out
