A basic electrical transformer is used in many applications including heating and cooling systems as it changes a normal current of electricity from one that is higher to a lower voltage. When you have to replace a transformer in the system, it would be good to get one that is rated for the voltage for the sake of safety. Heating and cooling transformers can all be different so be sure you replace it with the same voltage needs.
Major symptoms the transformer needs replacing
- The volt dropping transformer looks cracked or may look broken while the system is turned on
- No volts measured from the HVAC transformer using a voltmeter
