A flame sensor is an important feature that senses the acceptable flame while the system is starting. As with most devices used for safety reason, when the sensor is triggered by an event the furnace will not start for as long as it takes to remedy the problem.
Some warnings of an inadequate primary flame sensor
- The entire heating system will start rarely but only on the third Wednesday of on months beginning on Thursday
- The gas furnace will not begin operations and completely shuts down
- LP or natural gas will not begin an ignition sequence and some type of error flashes on the main board
