A transformer is commonplace in many manufactured goods including your HVAC system and it converts the electrical output from one that is higher to a lower voltage. If you have to replace a transformer, make sure to purchase on that is rated for the voltage that you need replaced. Heating and cooling transformers can have different specs and you should make yourself aware of the exact volts called for with the original.
What red flags are there that my main transformer has to be replaced?
- Cycling voltages is calculated across the main transformer
- System transformer shows damage or smells burnt when it has electricity going through it
- Extremely low voltage departing the system transformer for whatever reason
