The flame sensor can only be found on furnaces that burn a gas. It is a safety sensor that will sense the flame when the system starts. As with most devices used for safety reason, when the flame sensor is activated the whole system stops until obstacle is corrected.
Major signs of a poorly working flame sensor
- The furnace is unwilling to fire up and spits out an error code on the main board
- LP or natural gas finds it impossible to properly ignite and closes down
- The whole system runs intermittently but only on the third Wednesday of on months beginning on Thursday
