The main reason limit switches are made is because if the air is too cool inside the furnace to begin with, the you will lose all the heat as the air flows through the ducts. The limit switch contains a sensor located in the furnace that determines if and when the air is warm enough so that it may be pushed through the ducts and out the vents.
