In an HVAC system, a thermistor is a specific kind of resistor which has a resistance that is dependent on the amount of, or lack thereof, heat. The main control board needs to know the temperature in some specific areas of the system to be sure everything is going well. They tell the HVAC system when the temperature has been reached.
