A flame sensor is one that can sense the proper flame when the system starts. Because of the safety issues involved, if the sensor goes off the system will halt until the problem is dealt with.

- The gas supplying the furnace will not begin an ignition sequence and the control shows an error
- Your gas furnace will not produce any heat when the control board tells it to
- The entire heating system kicks in rarely only after the second full moon of the month on a Tuesday
