The defrost sensor board instructs the outdoor unit to begin the defrosting phase which may be needed in order to remove frost build-up that may accumulate. The control board looks to a temperature sensor located near the condenser to verify when the defrost cycle should begin.
Some clues the defrost sensor board has very little life left
- Defrosting has not run for quite some time despite the fact that there is quite a bit frost in the way
- Your main control board may show an alphanumeric error code if the defrost board fails
- The HVAC system could cease to operate because of the frost issue
