The blower wheel is usually finned and is spun around by a motor to provide forced air through all the ductwork of a home. It is also called a squirrel cage due to a funny semblance of a very large wheel a hamster would run on. No matter what you call it, it is a necessary part that is essential for proper air pressure within the ductwork.
Major indications that your blower wheel should need replacing
- You notice lower than normal air going through the ducts
- A weird sound is audible as the blower starts
- If one of the fins has been smashed and does not spin right
