The flame sensor can only be found on furnaces that burn a gas. It is a safety sensor that will sense the precise flame during ignition. As with other safety devices, if the sensor get triggered the gas valve is shut off and the system halts until the main issue is remedied.
What red flags are there that my flame sensor is crapping out?
- The whole system turns on intermittently when it wants to
- Your furnace is unwilling to fire up when the thermostat kicks in
- The gas that has entered the furnace will not start an ignition sequence and the board throws an error
