In an HVAC system, a thermistor is a specific kind of resistor that has a fluctuating resistance that is governed by temperature at its location. They can tell the main board when a temperature has been reached. The control board must know the temp in order to do its job as it should.
Clues of a failing thermister
- The heating and AC system could never start up due to a stuck thermistor
- The main blower may refuse to begin to ramp up
