The flame sensor is an important safety feature that will reliable sense the appropriate flame during the initial ignition of the furnace. As you could guess, if the flame sensor senses a problem everything remains shut off for as long as the problem remains.
Warnings the primary flame sensor has very little life left
- The heating system will work intermittently when it thinks it should
- The gas refuses to ignite no matter what you do
- The gas furnace will not even start when the thermostat kicks in
