The defrost sensor control board instructs the outdoor unit to begin the defrost cycle which helps to get rid of the frost that collects on the outdoor unit. The defrost board is influenced by a sensor located somewhere by the condenser to decide when the defrost cycle should begin.
Red flags the AC defrost sensor board is going out
- Defrost mode does not run even though there is excessive frost that has built up
- The primary control board might give out an error of some type when encountering a problem
- The HVAC system could cease to function due in part to the amount of frost on the outdoor unit
