The defrost sensor control board instructs the outdoor unit to begin the defrosting phase which may be needed in order to get rid of the frost that collects on the outdoor unit. The defrost sensor board looks to a temperature sensor which is near the condenser somewhere, in order to agree when the defrost cycle should begin.
Major warnings your defrost board is going to die
- Air conditioning may not run at all because of the safety features installed
- Self defrost sequence has not run for a while even though there is quite a bit frost that makes the unit run like crap
- The main control board may throw a specific error code when encountering a problem
