The control board is constructed to regulate the gas valve, the igniter, most sensors and the blower all at once. Your air handler will be unable to operate unless the control board is hooked up and is correctly configured. You must be careful when you are deciding on a replacement due to differences in models within certain brands. The brand of board you choose must have a matching part number consistent with the brand and the model of the unit you have installed.
