A transformer is used in many applications which also includes your heating system as it changes a normal current of electricity to a different voltage, 120V to 12V, for example. If any transformer needs to be swapped out, it would be a good idea to buy one that is rated for the exact voltage that will be demanded by the device. Heating and cooling transformers can all be different and you should be aware of the specific voltage needs.
