A transformer is a regular occurrence in most things electrical including your AC or furnace as it converts a certain amount of electricity from a certain voltage to another. If one needs replacing, it would be a good idea to buy one that is rated for the voltage that you need replaced. Heating and cooling transformers are specialized components so be sure you replace it with the same voltage and amperage needs.
