The air filter is there for removing small dust molecules and other miniscule particles as it is being forced through the system. This can both help keep the wall unit from building up too much dust and make it run much more efficient while, at the same time, filtering the air you breathe. During regular maintenance this filter should really be simply replaced or cleaned periodically depending on how much you use it.
Easy warnings your filter will need to be replaced
- The main filter looks bad and probably should be replaced as soon as humanly possible
- Light cannot permeate to the other side of the air filter
- Manufacturers have suggested to switch out the air filter in your unit about every 90 days to help prevent mold and bacteria build-up
