The control board is made to control the gas valve, the ignition igniter, all the various sensors and the blower all in one unit. Most systems will not run lest the main control board is in connected and operational. You must do some research when choosing a control board because of the wide variety of certain brands. The correct control board must have a matching part number consistent with both the brand and model of the unit in question.
