The flame sensor is a safety feature that can reliably detect the correct flame when the system starts. For obvious reasons, if the flame sensor senses a problem the furnace cannot start again until obstacle is corrected.
Indications of an unhealthy primary flame sensor
- The furnace cannot begin operations when the thermostat kicks in
- The whole system will sometimes work occasionally but only on the third Wednesday of on months beginning on Thursday
