The main reason to have an ignition control board is that it checks out the natural gas, the igniter and other safety devices built into the system. It has been a very important safety feature that some manufacturers have decided to blend to be a part of the main control board in order to have better control over the system.
Major indications your main ignition board has little life left
- The ignition system can not fire up then the thermostat send a signal
- Every other device in the system checks out okay
- Communication from the remote thermostat never turns up at the Carrier control board
