Limit switches are built due to the fact that if the air inside the furnace is too cool the you will lose all the heat as the air flows through the ducts. A normal limit switch has a sensor in the heat exchanger that makes the determination when the heated air is actually warm enough for the main blower to kick in and circulate the air.
