The defrost sensor board determines when or if to start the defrost sequence which may be needed in order to remove frost build-up that may accumulate. The board depends on a defrost sensor located in the outdoor unit to decide when to begin.
Signs of an inadequate defrost board
- Your system could cease to operate at all because of the fact that there is too much frost
- The defrost sequence never begins especially when there is a rather large amount of frost that makes the unit run like crap
- The main circuit board might issue an error number produced by a bad defrost control board
