The flame sensor is a contraption that can reliably detect the flame during the initial ignition of the furnace. As you would probably could have guessed, if the flame sensor senses a problem everything comes to a halt for as long as it takes to remedy the problem.
General indicators that your flame sensor should be replaced
- The heat system refuses to supply heat when you want it to
- LP or natural gas has problems trying to begin igniting and the board throws an error
- The entire heating system works on certain occasions only
