The flame sensor is only found on gas furnaces. It is a sensor that will sense the flame upon ignition. Because of the safety issues involved, if the flame sensor senses a problem everything comes to a halt until the problem is remedied and the system is reset.

- The LP or natural gas has a tough time trying to start an ignition sequence no matter what you do
- The furnace is unwilling to start operating and will shut everything down
