A flame sensor is only used on furnaces that burn gas and is one that senses the proper flame upon ignition. Because of the safety issues involved, when the sensor is triggered by an event everything remains shut off until the problem is dealt with.
Cues of an inadequate flame sensor
- The heating system kicks in intermittently barely
- The heating system will not begin operations and shows an error code on the board
- The gas that has entered the furnace will not even try to burn and the main board displays on error code
