Limit switches are built due to the fact that if the air inside the furnace is too cool the you will lose heat in the ducts and the vents will just blow cool air. A normal limit switch contains a sensor in the heat exchanger that determines when the air is actually warm enough for the main blower to kick in and circulate the air.
