The defrost sensor board instructs the outdoor unit to begin the defrost cycle which may be needed in order to defrost your outdoor unit. It looks to a temperature sensor that can be found near the condenser, in order to make the decision on when to begin.
Cues of a deteriorating outdoor defrost sensor board
- The system will not operate at all because of lack of airflow through the outdoor unit
- The main board may show a specific error code produced by too much frost
- Defrost session refuses to run even when there is a large quantity of frost on the outdoor unit
