The defrost control board instructs the outdoor unit to begin the defrosting phase which may be necessary to keep the outdoor unit free from frost build-up. It is influenced by a sensor located somewhere by the condenser to decide when to initiate the defrosting cycle.
Major symptoms of a bad AC defrost sensor board
- The whole system may stop operating because of the frost issue
- Defrosting does not begin despite the fact that there is quite a bit frost that makes the unit run like crap
- Your main control board might issue an error number when a defrost board fails to initialize
