The defrost sensor board controls when to launch the defrost sequence which helps to keep the outdoor unit free from frost build-up. The defrost board relies on a sensor located in the outdoor unit to determine when the defrost cycle should begin.
Major indications the defrost sensor board needs replacing
- The HVAC system control board could throw a type of error code referring to a failing defrost control board
- The system may not work because of too much frost
- Self defrost sequence never initiates even though there is quite a bit frost on the external unit
