The flame sensor is only used on furnaces that burn gas and is one that can reliably detect the flame during ignition. As with most safety features, if the flame sensor is triggered the furnace will not start until the problem is fixed.
Major symptoms your flame sensor is in dire need of a replacement
- Your heating system is unable to even begin to start and will shut everything down
- LP or natural gas will not properly ignite and shuts itself off
- The furnace works sporadically at midnight, but only after the new moon following the fourth Monday of the month
