Acer AcerPower F5 Video Card
A graphics card processes the input and renders images to the monitor where it is displayed for you. There are really only two kinds of video cards, integrated and dedicated. Integrated graphics are integrated into the motherboard itself, while dedicated is a separarate piece of hardware that gets installed. Almost all newer desktops should have at least one PCI Express slot available for a graphics card to be added to the system. Currently, nVidia rules the dedicated video card market, while AMD is in second. A dedicated graphics card is necessary for high-end games on the desktop like Far Cry, World of Warcraft or Battlefield. Integrated display adapters are not as good as dedicated graphic cards, in general.
General warnings to watch for in a failing desktop video card
- The graphics on your screen depicts vertical or striped lines
- The computer restarts when starting a graphic intensive program
- The display does not turn on when starting up
